The ZTL NextCloud is the central cloud storage service of Zentrum für Technikkultur Landau e. V.

This platform allows members to store, share, and collaborate on files, photos, CAD models, and organizational documents – hosted on self-managed infrastructure independently of commercial cloud providers.

Features & Capabilities

File Storage & Project Data: Centralized storage for 3D print models (STL/STEP), circuit schematics, vector paths for the laser cutter, high-resolution media, and club documents.
Sharing & Collaboration: Simple, secure sharing of folders and files internally with members or via password-protected links with external partners.

Access & Login

ZTL NextCloud is available to all active club members.

Login: Authentication is handled via the central ZTL Single Sign-On portal using your standard club credentials.
Web Access: https://cloud.ztl.team/
Client Configuration: Set https://cloud.ztl.team as the server URL in your desktop or mobile app and follow the browser authentication prompt.

3D Printing

At ZTL, you can turn your ideas into reality layer by layer! Whether it’s spare parts that are no longer available in stores or simple decoration, as a member you can freely use our 3D printers. Whether you’re an experienced maker or completely new to the topic, you are guaranteed to discover something new here. With the newest printer in our fleet, you can print in up to four colors in a single object, and with the resin printer you can achieve details that were previously hard to imagine.

Equipment & Software

Each printer is centrally accessible via the network.
For slicing, we primarily use OrcaSlicer, but PrusaSlicer or Snapmaker-Orca are also regularly used.

With our professional CO₂ laser cutter (affectionately called “brrrzZTL”), a wide variety of materials can be cut and engraved with sub-millimeter precision. The machine was funded through a successful community crowdfunding campaign in partnership with VR Bank Südpfalz and is one of the most popular tools in our makerspace.

Capabilities of the Laser Cutter

The laser focuses concentrated light energy to slice through materials at high speeds (vector cutting) or vaporize surface layers with microscopic precision (raster engraving).

Cutting & Engraving:
- Wood: Plywood, MDF, poplar, birch, solid woods, and veneers (e.g., for enclosures, mechanical puzzles, decorative boxes, architectural models)
- Plastics: Acrylic glass / Plexiglas (delivers flame-polished edges!), POM
- Paper & Cardboard: Stencils, architectural models, custom gaskets, pop-up cards
- Textiles & Leather: Fabric patterns, real leather, PVC-free faux leather, felt, denim
- Rubber: Custom laser-etched stamps
Engraving Only:
- Glass & Mirrors: Drinking glasses, bottles, mirror tiles
- Stone & Slate: Slate coasters, engraved stones
- Anodized Aluminum & Coated Metals: Machine faceplates, nameplates, logos

Warning

Safety & Forbidden Materials:
Materials producing toxic, caustic, or hazardous fumes when burnt must never be processed – specifically PVC (Vinyl), Teflon (PTFE), carbon-fiber composites (CFRP), and halogenated polymers. If you are unsure about a material, always consult experienced space members beforehand!

Preparation & Software

Artwork & CAD: Vector formats (.svg, .dxf, .pdf) for vector cuts and outlines; high-resolution raster images (.png, .jpg) for photographic engravings.
Design Tools: Ideal software includes Inkscape (Open Source), Adobe Illustrator, Autodesk Fusion 360, or FreeCAD.
Laser CAM: On the controlling computer, we use LightBurn and RDWorks.

Safety Briefing & Getting Started

Because a high-power CO₂ laser poses radiation and fire safety risks, a short safety briefing is required before operating the machine independently.

Electronics Corner

Thanks to many generous donations, our electronics corner invites everyone to tinker and build circuits. We are equipped with an extensive selection of components and consumables—meaning you can start experimenting right away without having to order parts first.

Workspace & Equipment

Component Storage: Clearly sorted and labeled component drawers make finding the right resistors, capacitors, ICs, and connectors easy.
Soldering Stations: Temperature-controlled soldering irons, desoldering pumps, and supplies ready for use.
Test Equipment: Oscilloscopes, multimeters, bench power supplies, and signal generators for circuit testing and debugging.

From THT to SMD

Currently, our setup is optimized for THT (Through-Hole Technology) prototyping.

We are expanding our capabilities to cover the full workflow from PCB design and milling to pick-and-place assembly and reflow soldering with our modified oven.

The amateur radio station at ZTL offers licensed radio operators the opportunity to participate in global shortwave communication as well as regional VHF (2 m) and UHF (70 cm) traffic:

Our club station is officially on air under the callsign DL0ZTL.

Activities & Training

Radio Operations: HF shortwave and VHF/UHF operations for worldwide and local contacts.
Training Operations: We support training operations under supervision, ideal for anyone interested in preparing for their ham radio license.
Satellite Radio: We are expanding our station to enable satellite communications via the geostationary satellite Qatar OSCAR-100 (QO-100).

The creative printing area focuses on customizing textiles, mugs, and various merchandise with unique, personal designs.

Our wood and metal workshop (affectionately known as the “dirty workshop”) provides ample space, heavy-duty workbenches, and power tools for large fabrication projects.

Lathe & Metalworking: Machines and fixtures for turning and shaping metal and cylindrical parts.

The social heart of our space is the lounge, featuring comfortable couches, a kitchen area, and a fully stocked drinks fridge. It is where members and guests gather to chat, exchange ideas, and unwind.

Facilities

Kitchenette: Equipped with coffee machine, microwave, stove, and sink for shared meals, cooking, and pizza nights.
Drinks Fridge: Stocked with chilled club mate, soft drinks, beer, and refreshments (available for a small contribution).
Sound & Lights: Sound system, controllable RGB/ambient lighting, and modular seating.

Community Hub

Hackmeck

Hackmeck is our version of a regular hacking meetup at Zentrum für Technikkultur Landau e. V. – and by now the longest-running event series in our space!

Here, we explore cybersecurity, vulnerabilities, and exploitation techniques hands-on. The goal is never to learn criminal activities, but rather to raise awareness for misconfigurations and security flaws in order to effectively defend and protect our own systems – both at home and at work.

Origin & Idea

The series was initiated by Mona when she began working as a professional IT security specialist. To collaboratively build and expand expertise while sharing knowledge, the idea of a regular meetup at ZTL was born: A safe sandbox environment to track current IT security developments, discuss attack vectors, and experiment with real-world scenarios.

What Happens at a Hackmeck Evening?

A typical session often starts with a challenging challenge prompt:

“Here is the IP address of a machine that might be vulnerable. Your objective is to discover and extract specific flags or data. Where do you start?”

Then the team gets to work:

Real Tools in Action: We use the exact same toolset as security researchers and penetration testers: Port scanners, directory fuzzers, password crackers, reverse shells, and exploit frameworks.
Teamwork & Collective Intelligence: We solve challenges together. The group brainstorms ideas, analyzes services, and proposes vectors. One or more participants drive the terminal on the projector.
Guidance & Hints: Whenever we hit a wall, Mona serves as “game master,” offering subtle hints so the team stays on track without getting lost down rabbit holes.
Strictly Simulations: Target systems come from specialized training platforms like HackTheBox and TryHackMe. We only attack simulations and never real, unauthorized systems!
Deep System Understanding: Fully understanding and exploiting a vulnerability requires diving deep into Linux and Windows OS internals.

Special Topics & Hardware Hacking

Not every evening revolves solely around traditional Capture-The-Flag machines. Members frequently present deep-dives into special topics:

Cryptography & Encryption
Radio Protocols & SDR (Software Defined Radio)
Hardware Hacking Tools like the Flipper Zero, BadUSBs, or RFID/NFC cloning

Open to Everyone – Including Beginners!

Everyone can and should participate! The topics can get very technical at times, and feeling lost momentarily is completely natural and part of the process. That’s why we explain every concept to one another, try different approaches, and make sure everyone understands the technique behind each exploit and defense.

The Soundspace is our creative area at ZTL dedicated to music production, synthesizers, sound design, podcasting, and DIY audio electronics.

Musicians, sound designers, and makers gather here to jam, craft beats, build custom instruments, or record speech and audio projects.

Features & Focus

Synthesizers & Sound Design: Hardware synthesizers, drum machines, samplers, MIDI controllers, and software instruments.
Recording & Podcasting: Studio microphones, audio interfaces, and room acoustics for podcasts, voiceovers, and acoustic recording.
